Specialty Malts

Specialty Malts is a broad term for malts that are typically used for their color and/or flavor contributions as opposed to their ability to provide fermentable sugar to a wort. You will find a very wide range of flavor and aroma profiles here.

Specialty malts are like the cinnamon and spice in a loaf of bread. The base malt is the flour (foundation), and the specialty malts are used in much smaller percentages to add complexity and nuance to a beer.
