Why Compete?

Homebrew Competitions are a great way to receive feedback for improving your brewing techniques. The main function of a competition is to provide quality advice for making our favorite hobby all the more enjoyable.

Brewers sign up for each month using the links below, and drop off their beers in anonymous bottles. We review and score the beers based on brewing quality and style accuracy.

Who are the Judges?

Many of our crew are certified beer judges through the BJCP, and/or Certified Cicerones. When needed, we will also use certified judges from our fantastic homebrew community.

We’re celebrating our 6th Anniversary for The Homebrewer and 3rd Anniversary for Home Brewing Co.

Rad Dad Can Release;
To celebrate the good times with our friends ChuckAlek, we present to you this delightfully refreshing German Pilsner blended with Star Fruit and El Dorado hops. This beer is packed with all the juiciness to accompany any of the bad dad jokes.
 
Movie Night:
We’ll be playing a special movie selected by our collaborators.
 
Food Pairing:
To be announced… It will be awesome.
Patio Unveiling:
Possibly…we hope…if permitted.

Homebrew Competition: Save the Maris Otter

Save the Maris Otter:
American & English Barleywines Only

Help us Save the Maris Otter! This wonderfully bready and biscuity malt is fantastic in all styles. We think it works particularly well with Barleywines… So let’s brew some!
This competition is open to American and English Barleywine.

All level of brewers are encouraged to enter. You will receive complete BJCP feedback from our staff of trained judges. It’s a great way to sharpen your skills and get some pointers for how to make your favorite hobby even more rewarding.

17D – English Barleywine
22C – American Barleywine

Bottle Requirements:
2x12oz Amber Bottles w/ no special markings, and all labeling removed.
Clean, Unmarked Bottle Caps

SD Homebrew Fest 2018

Join us as we celebrate the homebrew community and its capacity for caring and charity!

Come taste 35+ unique homebrews and mingle with the homebrewers themselves.

SD Homebrew Fest 2018 is a special event during which the homebrewers and their beers are the main focus.

Proceeds go to support Friends of Jefferson, a parent organization that helps teachers bridge the financial gap for art and science projects.

You be the Judge:

Festival attendees will taste and vote for their favorite beer. Prizes will be awarded for People’s Choice (favorite at the festival), as well for the top 3 beers selected by a group certified beer judges.

Tickets are available to designated drivers. You’ll help save a lives and support our local schools!

First Annual San Diego Homebrew Festival and Competition

Friends of Jefferson Elementary presents the first of what we hope will become an annual North Park tradition. 30 brewers will compete for the title of San Diego’s Best Home Brewer. Tickets include unlimited tastings of the home brews, as well as offerings from our five guest breweries–Mike Hess, Thorn Street, Monkey Paw, Home, and Fall. 

In addition there will be chances to talk beer with local experts, play games with your friends, and compete for awesome prizes donated by nearby businesses. All proceeds go toward supporting educational and enrichment opportunities at Jefferson Elementary, North Park’s neighborhood public elementary school.
